Health or Performance?

Posted by:

I don’t know what it is about this time of year but we’ve been getting a host of people coming to us with injuries sustained while lifting elsewhere. But I’m not talking competitive athletes. These are regular people just looking to become healthier and more fit. So why do they end up doing things that are detrimental to their health?

In part maybe because all of us have been constantly marketed to with the idea that to become healthier and fit ...

Have you ever tweaked your back or knee trying hit a certain goal?Yeah, me too.

Back while living in Japan my calligraphy teacher, then in his 70s, once chided a friend who was a very serious karate practitioner to keep the bigger picture of life & family in mind and not get so obsessed with karate that it would impact other areas of her life. Impressively he did so in the presence of her karate teacher, who was also his student ...

“Musculoskeletal pain is a lifestyle issue.”  – leading physical therapist Dr. Shirley Sahrmann

Of all the people that come to EFL I estimate that 90% come because they are experiencing some sort of pain or discomfort that negatively affects their life. The other 10% have body composition or performance related goals but tend to also have some movement-related limitations be it chronically tight upper back ...

An extreme example perhaps but how much training did Bruce Lee put in to develop his kicks to this level? It’s pretty obvious he spent ...

When the Going Gets Weird the Weird Get Authentic

If you happened to be around Long Beach CA on August 25-28th you probably saw a noticeable number of people wearing really short shorts and tank tops. Then you might have noticed others wearing fairly normal clothes but who probably looked stronger than your average bear.  Both groups were in town for the annual Perform Better Summit, the last of the year and undoubtedly the best fitness education event on the West Coast. But one group probably picked up more ...

Apologies for the lack of blogging but I’ve been more than busy juggling assessments on a host of new members, programming for current clients, and organizing the Elemental Fitness Clinic on July 30th.

Our new members are already seeing some results, so I would like to say keep up the good work all! We have a great new group of members with a range of goals, from getting rid of joint pain, losing weight, to gaining some muscle to ...

21st Century Training

Welcome to the EFL website and blog.

I’ve been thinking and rethinking what I should write about for the first official post, and when my friend Lou Schuler kindly wrote a testimonial for my new facility I had an answer. Since Lou is the professional writer I figured the maxim always let a pro handle it applies and followed his lead.

In his testimonial Lou says” Elemental Fitness Lab is a 21st-century gym, with every square ...
